2017 May Pender Post
May is here, buds are in full bloom and Spring has definitely arrived.
May brings Tire Month at the Depot, $2 per tire drop off. All types and sizes of consumer tires are welcome. The tires need to be off of the rims.
In our ReShop area you will now find our Dish Loan program has been re housed in a convenient location that helps everyone remember all that is available: Dinner plates, side plates, cutlery, small bowls, coffee mugs, water glasses, wine glasses, cloth napkins, and serving bowls. Let us help you prepare for those Spring and Summer parties. Don’t hesitate to ask when your next at the depot and see what we have available, then book what you need.
Also, we accept items anytime for donation to the ReShop and Free Store, just please check in with a depot staff member before leaving any items.
You will notice that there is a new shipping container new the exit of the Depot. The container and the small building next to it are the new home of the ReCycle Community Bike Shop, which is in full swing. Refurbished bikes are available for purchase by suggested donation. If you have old bikes that need a new home we are happy to take them off your hands and bike mechanic Ken Marshall will fix them up and give them a new life. And don’t forget that you can also bring your bike in for repair or tune up; our repair rates are very affordable. Bikes can be dropped off for repairs anytime the depot is open.
As we get into growing season please remember that we have plant pots outside of the Free Store for reuse. Commercial pots that are not reusable are recyclable in our regular plastic packaging program. Please ensure that pots and all plastics have been rinsed prior to drop off, dirt does not make the machines happy!
With growing season comes increased opportunity to eat local, Yeah! The weekend market has started up again and it’s such a treat to buy our seedlings, seeds and produce from our neighbours. The benefits to shopping this way are in multitude, remember to bring your own bag to the market and cut out that plastic!
Reminder: May 17th is the Pender Island Recycling Society AGM, 4:00 pm in the Community Hall Lounge. Of course, member attendance is welcome.
As always, we sincerely appreciate those of you who have already renewed your 2017 Recycling Depot membership, and who regularly drop off refundable containers; these sources of revenue are so valuable to keeping our depot open and running!
Thanks for reading, see you at the Depot.
