2017 April Pender Post

Hello April, please let Spring finally be here.

Well, our Backhaul list is backing up, but if being on a waitlist for a few weeks is not a problem please keep us in mind to help you get what you need for your Spring preparations. Utilizing this service is such a great way to support the depot and ensure that our truck doesn’t come back empty! For those of you who don’t already know this, we are able to deliver soil, sand, mulch, manure, gravel, etc right to your door.

With April’s arrival, the ReCycle Community Bike Shop opens for the season on Earth Day, April 22. We are lucky to have Ken Marshall back as our bike mechanic. The bike shop has been relocated near the exit to the depot so come soon and check it out! For more information on the bike shop operation please check out our web site www.penderislandrecycling.com.

Please make note of some other important upcoming dates: The Recycling Depot will be closed Easter Sunday, April 16 and the Pender Island Recycling Society’s AGM is going to be held on May 17 at 4:00 pm in the Lounge at the Community Hall.

Please take the time when you are next at the depot to renew your 2017 membership, or if more convenient you can renew on our website. Tax receipts are available and we really need and appreciate the support!

Something new up at the Depot this month in our ReUse area is a new solar panel monitor. Like the one located at Pender Islands Elementary, this monitor will show the energy production of the large solar arrays on the Island. At present, it will switch between the School and the Recycling Depot but in future as more community projects are completed you will be able to see the energy created there as well. Very cool, come check it out.

As we emerge from this long cold winter and are surrounded by nature awakening, take a moment to think about how lucky we are to be here in such a beautiful safe place. How can we protect this world? Recycling is just one layer, one positive choice we can take, but its not going to save the world. How do you keep layering the positive choices in your life? Coming together with like minds can be an empowering way to keep inspired. Saturday, April 22 is Earth Day. Join your community and be a part of a keeping Pender clean. Meet at the Medicine Beach parking lot at 9:30 am to participate in the beach clean up; presentations to follow at 1:00 pm at the Anglican Parish Hall. For more information visit www.penderconservancy.org

Thanks for reading, have a great April!
